Campus of Care

Haro Park Centre is a Campus of Care, the first of its kind in Vancouver. The Campus of Care provides independent housing, assisted living and complex care, allowing elders the opportunity to age in place. As their needs change we are able to provide elders with the necessary care without moving them away from the home they’ve come to know and the relationships they have developed. The Campus of Care works well for couples. For example, if one partner is able to live independently and the other requires professional care they can both be accommodated at Haro Park Centre, thereby enabling them to continue to live under one roof.

Independent Living

Haro Park Centre has 28 independent apartments; spacious bachelors for singles and 1 bedrooms for couples.  The independent tower has a separate entrance and mail service.  The penthouse has a spacious and comfortable common area with two roof gardens.  Many apartments have balconies and some floors have an additional shared exterior deck space as well.

All the independent living suites have a fridge and stove, but are otherwise unfurnished.  Independent living tenants also have access to all the professional services offered within the Campus such as house physicians, dentist, podiatrist and eye clinics.

Assisted Living

Assisted Living is an opportunity to "enhance the quality of  life over other possible living arrangements" and to remain as independent as possible - living in one's own home and directing their own care.  There are 36 designated apartments within our Campus and currently they are being filled through attrition.

All the Assisted Living suites have a fridge and stove, but are otherwise unfurnished.  They also share the Bute St. entrance with the Independent Housing tenants.  Assisted Living tenants also have access to all the professional services offered within the Campus such as house physicians, dentist, podiatrist and eye clinics

There are a number of services offered, which are regulated and limited by legislation of the Assisted Living Registrar. These services are determined by the Community Assessor and include

  • Meals in the main dining room

  • Housekeeping

  • Laundry

  • Emergency Response

  • Assistance with Bathing

  • Assistance with Medication

This environment is to promote individuality, independence, privacy, respect and family involvement.  Individuals are entitled to make choices about their lifestyle on a daily basis as they did in their own homes.

Complex Care

There are 154 Complex Care to compliment the independent and assisted living suites within the Campus at Haro Park Centre.  Complex care is personalized, 24-hour nursing care and personal assistance.  Those in Complex Care receive required help with bathing, dressing, personal hygiene, and medications.  Haro Park also provides personal laundry service.  Care rooms are private and furnished with a bed, besides table, lamp and a small chair.  Wheelchair rooms have private bathrooms other rooms share a toilet between rooms.  All bathing facilities are located in a central 'Spa'.  Bathing facilities include a choice between shower and tub.  All the care rooms have enough space to accommodate small personal furnishings.

We provide 3 meals and 2 snacks daily.  Nutrition is monitored by a clinical dietitian and adapted to meet individual needs.  An active and vibrant leisure department provides a wide range of daily activities and each floor has a complete care team including RNs/RPNs, LPNs, and care aides.   Additional professional services provided onsite include:  podiatrist, dentist, physiotherapist/occupational therapist, massage therapist, audiologist, pharmacist, and optometrist/ophthalmologist.

Within the Campus, and available to all, are amenities such as a hair salon, non-denominational Chapel, Country Kitchen, Cyber-School, tuck shop, outdoor gardens, seasonal and special events, and outreach library services from Vancouver Public Library.
