                                                  Donations at Work in Programs

Haro Park is able to offer a number of programs that are not funded in our baseline budget from the Health Authority and we therefore rely on the generosity of the community to ensure these therapies occur on an ongoing basis. Learn more on how your donations toward our programs are at work at Haro Park.

At Haro Park Centre, we believe you are never too old to learn. The Haro Park Centre Cyber School gives elders and tower tenants opportunities to learn and use computers and keep in touch with loved ones.

                                                  Horticulture Therapy

Haro Park has a horticulture program where residents can visit our roof top garden and care for plants, fruits and vegetables. Our seasonal year-round garden programs and include planting seedlings, creating and tending flowerbeds, pressing flowers to make cards, and bus outings to garden shows.  Regular donations from local florists allow us to have weekly flower arranging classes.

Music Therapy - supported by our donors

                                                  Picture
Music Therapy is a valuable part of the therapeutic services provided at Haro Park Centre. Music is effective in stimulating memory recall which contributes to reminiscence and satisfaction with life, positive changes in mood, and emotional states. Music often reaches elders more effectively than other communication strategies and has been proven to provide stress relief, particularly for people with dementia. The Haro Park Centre Music Therapy Program includes one-to-one programs, and group sessions such as choral singing, hand chimes, sing-a-longs, and music appreciation.

Art Therapy - supported by our donors

Art forms an integral part of the leisure programs offered at Haro Park Centre. The artistic process has been shown to improve physical, emotional, and spiritual well-being. It fosters creativity, and creativity is directly connected to longevity. The creative process of art expression lifts morale, increases cognitive skills, stimulates the senses, and brings new energy. At Haro Park we have regularly scheduled art sessions, as well as drop-in times.
