Moving to Haro Park CentreBefore moving into Haro Park Centre (Assisted Living or Complex Care) an assessment must first be done by a local Community Health Centre liaison. Please check the Vancouver Coastal Health website for the prerequisites for care or supportive housing. For subsidized Independent Housing you must apply in person annually to keep your application current. There is an extensive waitlist for Independent Housing.
At the time of assessment a case worker will be assigned to determine needs and review the services available. If an elder requires Complex Care, the person or designate will have the opportunity to select a "preferred" facility. This may not be the first bed available. Moving into a long term care home is done on a priority access basis, if needs are immediate the next available facility will be offered. After moving into a new home one can keep their name on the waitlist for their preferred home.
Before moving to Haro Park Centre we suggest that some decisions be made ahead of time. Decide which small pieces of furniture to bring and which clothes will be needed. See 'Suggested Clothing and Items List' link. Clothing will be labeled once you arrive at the home.
Please remember: when moving into Complex Care you will not need items such as kitchen utensils. Haro Park's kitchen serves 3 meals a day and 2 daily snacks with tea and coffee. Sunday meals include white linen. Friends and family are always welcome to join you for meals if prearranged for a nominal cost. Meal tickets for friends and family can be purchased at the main reception desk.
When leaving or moving from our Campus, all belongings must be removed. Donations of clothing and/or medical equipment are accepted if appropriate.
